Of all the MIDI controller keyboards out there at the moment the Oxygen is the one I'll like the most, and for the price you can't really go wrong. Having owned the original Axiom 49 and an Oxygen 8v2 and compared them side by side, I have found that there is nothing I don't like about the Oxygen but there are too many things I didn't like about the original Axiom. However the knobs and the pads reportedly suck.

How hard was it to set-up the axiom for reaper? I've read in some forums that people have trouble setting the axiom up with their programs, I don't know if these people are well educated on midi controllers or if they tried to plug n' play and hope for the best so I don't know whether to trust em.įrom what I've read in Gearslutz the Axiom Pro and Axiom Advanced (mk2) have nice keys and they no longer suffer from the "sticky keys" problem. Do you have the first gen axiom or the second gen? and its good to know it doesn't crash with reaper, I'm currently running Logic Pro 9 (I hope that doesn't earn me hatred on this forum) but maybe I'll have to look into getting Reaper. Well all this is good to hear, i think I'm gonna go for the axiom 61. I really do like working with/on the Axioms. If the combination of Axiom/Reaper is known to cause BSOD, wow ~ thatd suck :P I usually only have my boards hooked into Reason 4.0 and currently have only used them with Reaper a few times. If anyone can confirm Axioms causing crashes, Id totally like to see that. People say they need "broken in" - dunno about that. Whats funny, is the Axiom 25 seems better made by virtue of their manufacturing process than the 49.įor me, the pads on the Axioms are about a B = useable, but tedious. Those Oxy boards are not made to the same standard and are quite a bit astic-y. Id easily say go for the Axiom 49 over the Oxygen board. I'm gonna print it tomorrow and give it a read.Īnyway, I think the price of this keyboard is unbeatable for what it offers. Have no idea what the other buttons and the display does yet. I didn't had time to read it, so I just basically played a bit with the keys, knobs, pitch wheel and octave shift.

You'll need the manual to tweak it your way. As easy as hitting "Learn" and turning the knob.ĥ) It's too much functionalities and very customizable (not complaining). No delays at all.Ĥ) Knobs and sliders works just fine.

You don't really need to install the drivers, but I installed it anyway.ģ) Reaper recognized it normally. I just installed the driver from the website before plugging it in and after that was just standard "new device" procedure on Windows. Didn't fit the space I had planned, but that doesn't make it worse in any way =pĢ) Easy installation. I only had a few hours to play with it, but as promised, here's my opinions (you already bought yours, but information is never too much ):ġ) It's bigger than it looks like in the picture. We're talking about steps per controller.Well, just received it today. So, it's not commands per knob we're talking about here. Because the human ear's very sensitive to pitch changes, pitchbend uses the 16,384 steps of 14 bit resolution, but swings it around a 0 point, thus giving you a 14 bit signed controller (13 bits of resolution, and a 0 or 1 to show positive or negative values). Some plugins accept NPRNs as valid commands, and some hosts use them for internal automation purposes. Because of this, they don't need to reserve the 7 bits that the normal MIDI controller message uses in every byte to define controller number, so they use those 7 bits for more resolution, giving them 16,384 steps.

NRPNs on the other hand are non-registered that is the original MIDI spec didn't assign them as either a general purpose controller or as a defined controller such as mod wheel (cc#1) they're undefined parameters. Hence, any MIDI command (both the controller number and the value) can be contained in a single byte. This allows for a 7 bit controller number (0-127) and a 7 bit value (0-127), and allows for either a MSB or LSB for bank selection depending on the instrument. When most people think of MIDI controllers, they're thinking of the controllers defined by the original MIDI spec. You've got the idea, but you're confusing terminology.
